A Nokia mobile phone – we’ve all had one, some of you may even still have one somewhere, they are truly an important part of our technology history. Seeing as Nokia won’t be making anymore phones since its take over by Microsoft, we thought we’d take a trip down memory lane and look back at some of the best and worst models Nokia ever made. They swing from being game-changers in the mobile phone industry to ‘what on earth were they thinking’, so take a journey with us through the decades and keep an eye out for the ones you had and loved.
Nokia Cityman
Released way back in 1987, the Cityman was Nokia's first ever mobile phone. It wowed consumers and was viewed as a sleek, high-end must-have gadget. Forget the whole thing over screen size, this phone came in two models - the 450 and the 900, named after the frequencies in MHz they used on the Nordic Telephony System.
Nokia 8110
The 8110 rose to fame mainly because it featured in The Matrix and was used by Keanu Reeves himself in the film.
Nokia 5110
In 1998 this all-pervious phone was everywhere and loved for its amazing battery life. And of course it featured Snake!
Nokia 3210
Were you one of the 160 million people to own this model? Its popularity was down to the robust nature of this little phone, which at the time was considered to be very compact.
Nokia 8210
Used by Charlies' Angels in the film, this phone was labelled feminine due to the fact that it was small in size and light in weight. However you could change the look thanks to the Xpress-on interchangeable colours, not forgetting the customisable ringtones!
Nokia 3310
With a battery life that lasted for days and a solid frame, this phone was popular the world over. What's more, it allowed 459 characters per text message, three times the average at the time.
Nokia 6310
Designed to appeal to the average business-exec, the 6310 came with Bluetooth and a voice memo recorder.
Nokia 3650
What on earth were Nokia thinking when they created this circular keypad? If you were able to look past the fact that it was an ugly phone, it did have some cool features like a colour screen, a VGA camera and wait for it - 3.4MB of storage!
Nokia 7600
Here is an example of trying to be cool and different but failing miserably. Most consumers didn't want to be seen dead with this model.
Nokia N90
The Nokia N90 really was pushing the boundaries, when it was first released. You could even say that this is where inspiration came from for the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Zoom. With its flipable screen, it really did look more like a camcorder than a mobile phone.
Nokia 8800
With its stainless steel shell, MP3 playback and a scratch-resistant screen, the 8800 really was a premium device. Sadly the battery was anything but premium, with many users complaining that the phone needed numerous charges through the day - something we are all familiar with now!
Nokia 7280
Nicknamed the 'lipstick phone', the 7280 looked like anything but a mobile phone. To add to its faults, you had to use a scrollwheel in order to select numbers and letters, making it rather impractical to use. On the plus side, it did have a mirrored screen, great for touching up make up!
Nokia N95
Labelled the world's most powerful smartphone, this model came with a 5-MP camera, GPS and a Flash-compatible web browser. It was a computer, a camera, a satnav, a games console and a phone all rolled into one - it really did have it all.
Nokia Lumia 1020
Finally we come to the Lumia 1020, which critics have named the best camera phone ever and it's not surprising when you consider that it has a 41-MP Pureview camera on board.
