Microsoft Sold 9.3 Million Lumia Windows Phone Devices In The Last Quarter

During quarterly earnings results, Microsoft revealed that they sold over 9.3 million Lumia Windows Phone devices in the last quarter. Microsoft’s phone hardware business which includes both Lumia smartphone and Nokia’s feature phone business saw a revenue of $2.6 billion with gross margin of $480 million. Microsoft mentioned that non-Lumia devices performed in line with the market for feature phones. Windows Phone OS business revenue declined 46% primarily because of low licensing revenue royalty from low-end devices.
Handset sales are up 5.6% from the same quarter last year, when 8.8 million Lumia handsets were sold.  At 9.3 million handsets sold it suggests more than 10 million Windows Phones were sold in Q3 2014, due to the influx of new OEMs over the same period.
