WPCentral reports that Verizon’s official twitter support has confirmed the Nokia Lumia Icon is being retired ie. the carrier will not be ordering any more stock of the handset, and will be selling out existing supplies.
The handset is still available in store and online, but as stock runs out more and more areas will no longer be offering it.
The smartphone was introduced in February 2014, and is the only real flagship Windows Phone in USA, with the Nokia Lumia 1520 being hamstrung by its 6 inch size and the HTC M8 for Windows by its 4 megapixel camera.
The news is therefore amazingly bad for high end Windows Phone buyers in USA, and one has to wonder what Microsoft was thinking by cancelling the McLaren. Sure, the 830 and 735 will be widely available, but is hardly a replacement for a Snapdragon 800 processor.
