Start-up promises cross-platform Java development for iOS, Android and Windows Phone

Codename One is a new development service which allows developers to code in Java and have their code compiled in the cloud for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
They translate Java to Xcode for iOS and C# for Windows Phone, and note that the performance of their compiled code is sometimes even faster than native code.
The service also allows developers to call native functions for each platform if developers need a function which is not covered by the basic development kit.
The Codename One CEO Shai Almog, notes:
“We are trying to make it easy to write an application in Java and it just works seamlessly for building native applications. I think it is doable because our abstraction is similar to Swing and because of the use of API styles and theme painters.”
The service is mostly open source and free to get started, and is already used by 15,000 developers.
