We’ve been actively collaborating with the W3C and IETF to contribute and improve standards like the ORTC API for WebRTC to enable a wide range of features from simple conversations to scalable multiparty video conferences. With the momentum from over 80 participants that represent a variety of browsers, communications experts and start-ups, the W3C ORTC Community Group has issued a “Call for Implementations,” which signals the ORTC specification has reached significant stability. Building on top of the experiences from Skype and Lync and prototyping effort done by the Microsoft OpenTech, we are now working to deliver the ORTC API in Internet Explorer.The ORTC specification supports the underlying protocols as defined by the IETF RTCWEB Working Group,which enables support for advanced video conferencing technologies such as simulcast and scalable video coding. We are working with the web community on various fronts to influence how a subset of ORTC objects and methods become part of the WebRTC 1.0 API. This helps to provide a seamless transition from WebRTC 1.0 to a JavaScript object-based real-time communications model based on ORTC (i.e. WebRTC 1.1).

Microsoft also announced an expansion of its ExpressRoute offering in Australia via its existing global partnership with Equinix and forming a new alliance with Telstra. The expansion gives Australian customers and partners the option to create private connections between the Australia Azure Regions and infrastructure located on-premises or in a colocation environment. ExpressRoute connections do not go over the public Internet, and offer more reliability, faster speeds and lower latencies.

Sunset Overdrive is an immensely rewarding experience that has a look and style all its own and a great gameplay package to complement it. It’s a colorful return to form for Insomniac games, and a hell of an exclusive for Xbox One.
As a collection of mechanics and ideas, Sunset Overdrive is an impressive evolution of things Insomniac has been doing for a long time. Every part of Sunset Overdrive hooks into every other part somehow, and often in multiple ways, and it makes the whole shooting, grinding, wall-running package better for it. But the best thing about Sunset Overdrive is how it’s unabashedly enthusiastic about what it is, in just about every way. That enthusiasm, and the freedom behind it, is contagious.
Sunset Overdrive is big, gorgeous, and a hell of a lot of fun. Never has getting from point A to point B in an open-world game provided so much enjoyment. It provides some of the most fun, frantic, and fantastic gaming I’ve had on the Xbox One. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to once-again adorn my wolf mask, leap off the highest ledge I can find, and fire an explosive stuffed animal at that group of angry robots.
Sunset Overdrive sets out to create a world where the apocalypse is fun instead of depressing, and that means putting control in the player’s hands. Developer Insomniac has given players a sandbox to play in, toys to play with, a treasure chest full of costumes and jokes that lampoon and acknowledge how absurd the whole thing is.Each of the game’s systems feeds into another, making the experience feel complete and purposeful. More importantly, it gives players a plethora of choices in how they look, what weapon they use and how they play, and then makes every single possible combination feel vindicated. Nothing goes to waste in the awesome-pocalypse, and everyone’s invited to Sunset City’s after-party.
In case you’ve not been able to tell throughout my review so far, I have thoroughly enjoyed Sunset Overdrive. It’s the game I wanted it to be, and then some. Playing Sunset took me back to a classic series of games from Insomniac. I haven’t played a Ratchet & Clank game for over 12 years, but I remember absolutely adoring them and as I gunned down the hordes of OD around this humongous futuristic settlement, I couldn’t help but be reminded of how great Insomniac are at making games.
Sunset Overdrive is better than it should be. With a questionable sense of humor and some truly humorless repetition in the campaign, Insomniac’s latest could have fallen flat, but the sheer delight of moving around the city and learning how to effectively handle the throngs of baddies is intensely compelling.
Xbox One, like most consoles do, has had a slow first year. The exclusive games weren’t that good and thegood games weren’t that exclusive. It’s exciting to find something that’s only on Xbox One that’s this high-quality, and importantly that breaks away from the sameness of today’s lineup of triple-A game experiences. I hope this is the beginning of a trend.
