Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini specifications and pictures emerge

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, otherwise known as the GT-I8190, will launch tomorrow but the first pictures of the device, as well as detailed specifications, have emerged today, courtesy of German website Mobilegeeks. (Note: the top image is that of the Galaxy S3)

The smartphone sports the same hardware as the Samsung Galaxy S, bar the screen size and the system-on-chip. There’s a 4in Super AMOLED display with a 800 x 480 resolution, a dual-core system-on-chip, the ST-Ericsson Novathor U8420 clocked at 1GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, a 5-megapixel camera with flash, Bluetooth 4.0, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Wi-Fi, NFC, a 10mm thickness and a front facing VGA camera.
The S3 Mini is expected to come with the same pebble-like features as the S3, just smaller. We would be quite surprised if Samsung was to launch the S3 with these specifications, for a number of reasons.
Firstly, at the time of publication, ST-Ericsson doesn’t have a U8420 SoC in its portfolio. Instead, there’s the U8500, which powers the Sony Xperia U.
Furthermore, the phone itself would sport a specification that would cheapen the brand value of the S3, especially when the likes of HTC and Sony have rival phones – like the HTC Desire X or the Xperia Solo - for under £200.
