Facebook data says Windows Phone attract young men with interesting jobs, while iPhone fans were attracted to food preparation jobs

Facebook’s new ad platform provides a wealth of demographic data on a very wide variety of interests, including those who express interest in smartphone operating systems.
For those curious it gives an interesting look at the demographics of the various fan communities.
The data shows amongst Windows Phone fans men were well over-represented (64:36%) suggesting Windows Phone users were twice as likely to be men than women. Equally the Windows Phone population was weighed to the younger side of Facebook’s population, with those over 25 less likely than average to use windows phones.
Windows Phone fans more than average tended to work in IT, architecture and engineering, arts, entertainment, sports and media.
Lastly, consistent with their young age, Windows Phone fans tended to be single, and somewhat unlikely to be married.  They were most often had college or grad school, with less than average only having high school qualifications.
IPhone
iPhone fans tended to be somewhat older, and were attracted in jobs in retail, law and seasonal work, social services and food preparation, with 18% of iPhone owners working in food preparation and services. The gender ratio between men and woman with the iPhone was close to equal (51:49%).
Unlike Windows Phone owners iPhone fans were less likely to be single than average and had education levels  were largely on the level with Windows Phone.
Android
Android fans were interestingly somewhat older than Windows Phone fans, but still younger than iPhone fans and than average. The gender ratio of 60:40% was less extreme than that of Windows Phone.
People who worked in production and seasonal work, and also somewhat IT (but to a lesser extent than Windows Phone) were attracted Android handsets.
Android fans were also more likely than average to be single, but less so than Windows Phone fans, and their education level was also broadly similar to iOS and Windows Phone fans.

Bendgate: Apple won’t provide review units to Computer Bild, for posting its iPhone 6 Plus bending video

That may well be called “Knee-Jerk” reaction of the decade!! Apple stung by non-stop bad PR due to Bendgate videos has become so nervous that it has ended its relations with Europe’s top selling computer magazine Computer Bild. It won’t provide review units to them going forward and won’t invite them for covering Apple events. Quite ugly reaction, we must say!!
Computer Build has written a lengthy letter to Tim Cook, which you can read below after watching Computer Build’s own Bendgate video,

Dear Mr. Tim Cook!
Just like anyone else who is obsessed with digital technology we have eagerly awaited the new iPhone. We felt relief when the head of our telecom department one day shouted “Here we go!”, presenting an invitation to the great event. And certainly we took a flight, went all the way to California, just to tell our readers every detail about the device that you and your company have worked on so hard for such a long time.

When the iPhone 6 Plus finally hit the market we noticed a few reports on a possible problem. According to them the case seemed to be weak, “bendable”, to drop the evil word. Being popular for our tests with utmost scrutiny, we could not leave the subject without comment. Of course that required further tests since testing new products without any prejudice is our obligation to our readers.
And so we bought an iPhone 6 Plus, just to find out whether it was a singular problem or some kind of hoax. The test was quite simple, so we could easily record it on video. Just to prove that what happens is nothing but the truth.
To be honest: We were shocked about how easy it was to bend the device. And so were around 200.000 viewers who watched the video up until now. We can imagine that you and your colleagues must have been shocked, too. This might have been the reason why we got a call from one of your german colleagues the next morning. He was upset, and it was a rather short conversation. “From now on”, he said, “you won’t get any devices for testing purposes and you will not be invited to Apple events in the future.”
Dear Mr. Cook: Is this really how your company wants to deal with media that provide your customers with profound tests of your products? Do you really think that a withdrawal of Apple’s love and affection could have an intimidating effect on us? Luckily we do not have to rely on devices that Apple provides us with. Luckily, a lot of readers are willing to pay money for our magazine to keep us independent. So we are able to buy devices to do our tests anyway. Even devices of manufacturers that seem to fear COMPUTER BILD’s independent judgement.
Even if we are quite dismayed about Apple’s reaction, we won’t give up our principles: We will continue our incorruptible tests that have the same high reputation in the german media-landscape as Apple has for its products. So far. We congratulate you to your fine new generation of iPhones, even if one of them has a minor weakness with its casing. But we are deeply disappointed about the lack of respect of your company.

Best regards,
Axel Telzerow

Bending an iPhone 6+ is child’s play #Bendgate

There has been a lot of damage control over the last week from Apple about their bendy phone, with Apple even showing the media their testing labs, where phones get tested to withstand a maximum of 25 kg (50 pounds) which is ironically about the weight of a young child.
It seems however the iPhone 6+ is not designed to withstand rampaging teenagers, with two UK teens in the above video going to an Apple store and demonstrating live on video that it does not take a muscle man or extraordinary strength or force to bend Apple’s phablet.

While we do not condone the actions of these clearly hooligan-like youth, it does clearly demonstrate that many more than 9 people will face issues with bent smartphones due to Apple’s obsession with style over function

Bendgate: Unbox Therapy now bends iPhone 6 Plus in front of public. Looks incredibly easy to bend

What a way to answer those calling him fake!  ... Unbox Therapy, whose original iPhone 6 Plus bending video went viral has now demoed “how easy it is to bend an iPhone 6 Plus” in front of witnesses. It is not that difficult to understand why he needed to do so.

A big part of “Tech media” calls itself neutral but can hardly criticize Apple or its products, however crappy or copied they maybe. This disgusting phenomenon comes to notice when you see talks of best displays, gold standard cameras even without a proper comparison with competition.
Anyways coming to the the Bendgate, you would like to see how incredibly easy it is to bend the brand-new iPhone 6 Plus and worse the screen too pops out.

Same person has tried to bend other devices too and found all but iPhone 6 quite robust.

Not Just Mac Production Line, Even iPhone Durability Tests Are Done With The Help Of Windows XP Machines

Back in June, Apple CEO Tim Cook made a visit to Apple’s factory in the USA where they are producing few Mac models. During inspection, Tim Cook tweeted a photo showing a worker doing his job at the factory. It was revealed that iMac were running Windows XP in the production line.

After the famous iPhone 6 Plus bend gate issue, as part of damage Apple invited few journalists to show how they are doing durability tests on iPhone in their factories. CNBC posted the above photo they shot at Apple’s factory. As you can see in the photo above, Windows XP machines are used to perform durability tests in Apple’s factories.
So, majority of the Apple products are produced with the help of decade old Windows XP OS from Microsoft.

Some hilarious BendGate Memes from across the Internet- Part 2

By now, most of you must’ve heard about #BendGate. Basically, several iPhone 6 Plus users has complained that their phone bended. A YouTuber than posted a video of the “bend test” as well and it failed. And then, it began. From Nokia to KitKat and bunch of other companies has trolled Apple at Twitter. Here are some of the most funniest ones:

Why latest HERE news aren’t as bad as they sound

HERE will focus its development on iOS and Android in the future, that have been the news that shocked and disappointed Windows Phone users today. I have to admit, my first reaction too was “F you, Nokia!”, but looking at it from another perspective made things a little clearer.
Basically the other perspective is the perspective of HERE. Pino Bonetti, working for HERE in Berlin, Germany, retweeted a tweet which made things a little clearer.
Development for Windows Phone is not over! In fact, the Windows Phone version of HERE Maps is more or less finished. There are still bugs to be fixed and some features to come, and it was never said these have been canceled. On the other hand, the iOS and Android versions are still lagging behind. And considering their market share it’s more than obvious a company that is committed to making profit will try to get as much money as possible from where the most money is.
All this news do not mean there are no new features coming to Windows Phone, or that the Windows Phone versions of HERE apps will lag behind in the future. Of course this is not impossible, but it was not announced. Right  now HERE is focusing on iOS and Android to make them on par with Windows Phone. There was nothing more said about the future.  In addition to that, HERE is in talks with Microsoft. That means they are still negotiating and Microsoft would be really dumb letting HERE – a very important feature of Lumia Windows Phone – just go. I am really sure their solution will be just as pleasant to the user as it is right now.
Nokia has now responded with the following statement. In short, they have not stopped the development of apps, but they are in discussion with Microsoft on how to proceed.
1. HERE is powering Windows Phone and that’s not going to change
Microsoft entered a license agreement with HERE to use our mapping platform for at least four years. This is why you see HERE maps on Windows Phone not only in the HERE apps but also in the Facebook app, in the Foursquare app, in the Instagram app and many more, even in the Uber app.
2. Offline maps aren’t going anywhere either
Licensing our mapping platform doesn’t mean that Microsoft is only using our data, but thy have access to our full capability, including the possibility to store maps offline.
3. The more people use HERE the better it gets for everyone
Every cloud based service lives with user input. The more you use Amazon or Facebook, the better they get and we’re not different. The more people use HERE, the better it gets for everyone. Don’t you want better traffic info on your Windows Phone? That’s why we have to enable also your friends with an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy to use HERE so that everyone can take advantage. We used to develop for “Windows Phone first”, now “all OS are equal”.
4. The map apps on Windows Phone will get better
We haven’t stopped developing for Windows Phone, but we are discussing with Microsoft how to proceed. At the end, whether as a HERE app or not, your location experience on Windows Phone will improve. Btw, we updated the maps on Windows Phone just a short time ago and more updates are coming soon.

Some hilarious BendGate Memes from across the Internet

We reported how BendGate may take the sheen away from Apple‘s recently launched catch-up iPhones. Now, #Bendgate has been trending on Internet and some hilarious Memes are doing rounds. Have a look at the funniest of the lot here

Detailed review of the Nokia Lumia 1520 vs iPhone 6+

Juan Bagnell have posted a detailed review of the Nokia Lumia 1520 vs Apple’s phablet, the iPhone 6+, focussing on usability and day to day features, and we note that he found quite a number of areas where the Nokia handset comes out ahead, such as better ergonomics, better camera placement, more durable finish and a lot more.
Of course the iPhone 6+ also has areas where its ahead.
See the interesting video below.

Nokia Lumia 930 gets surprise endorsement on Sky News #Bendgate story

#Bendgate is getting pretty wide coverage in the media, and while it is unlikely to directly influence sales initially, it does make iPhone 6+ buyers look somewhat foolish for buying a device which needs such mollycoddling.

The story was covered this morning on Sky News in UK, and Nokia’s name came up as devices from a time when handsets were more durable.
It was somewhat of a surprise to see the presenter, Eamonn Holmes, pull out his Nokia Lumia 930, saying “they are very good”, noting that he was very discerning about his technology, ending with “don’t knock the phone.”

See the video below.

#Bendgate Nokia Lumia put to the bend test

Before the rather floppy iPhone 6+ no-one really worried about whether your phone will bend in your pocket or now.
Since yesterday however trying to bend phones has been all the rage, and the results coming in seems pretty clear – its not that easy to bend a smartphone, unless its an iPhone 6+ of course.
Unbox Therapy put a wide variety of devices to the test, including the Nokia Lumia 1020, and came away without any real concern.
For iPhone 6+ owners however, hopefully they will avoid pocketing it wrong.

Siri vs Cortana: Two new videos take a dig at iPhone’s assistant again

As if Bendgate was not enough for the day, Microsoft has again posted two videos showing Cortana‘s supremacy over Siri. The two videos title “Lost” and “Remind me” remind us about cool stuff Cortana can do but Siri can’t.

Bendgate: Apple just sold 10 million defective iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus, which deform in your pocket

It will be interesting to see how iFans will defend their decision to purchase new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus for a premium, now. Earlier, if they tend to lose the debate on features, display etc then the Apple’s quality and design will be the last line of defense. That “last line of defense” is gone now with what looks like a new unrevealed feature of new iPhones (Pun intended):
It bends (deforms) in your pocket and that too permanently, and in case you try to straighten it up the screen may crack. As per the reports the, issue is with both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Unboxtherapy tried to bend iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy Note 3 with bare hands and see what happened,

Isn’t it disappointing that a company which charges premium for its devices, don’t even test the devices properly before passing on to market? You can check reactions of disappointed owners on Twitter by following #Bendgate.

He contacted Apple to the problem, she was told: € 297 repair !!!!
So iPhone 6 fragile ...
This confirms the feeling of weakness that you feel when you hold it in hand.
